Difficulty making repayments
Prepare an early, clear conversation about a payment you may struggle to make.

Contact the provider early
If you expect to miss a repayment, contact the provider before the due date where possible. Explain whether the difficulty is temporary or continuing and which payment is affected. Do not assume that sending an enquiry changes the repayment agreement or pauses charges.
Prepare a realistic picture
- Current income and any expected change.
- Essential household or business costs.
- Existing debts and the amounts and dates due.
- What you can currently afford and when circumstances may change.
Ask about the terms of any arrangement
If an alternative is offered, ask how it affects interest, fees, the repayment period, reporting and the final amount due. Obtain the agreed terms in writing. A reduced payment or payment pause can have a cost even if it helps short-term cash flow.
Keep records and avoid repeat applications
Keep the reference, documents supplied and any written decision. Do not make a new borrowing commitment simply to conceal a continuing shortfall. Independent debt-support organisations may be available in your jurisdiction; verify the organisation before sharing personal information.
For existing KLASS BANK customers
