Banking through life events
Keep account information and financial responsibilities aligned with a change in circumstances.

Moving or changing contact details
Update information through the authenticated service or the provider's approved process. Check correspondence addresses, recovery contacts and recurring payment details. A move between countries can also affect product eligibility and tax reporting, so ask what documentation is needed.
Marriage, separation and shared money
Review account ownership, authorised access and responsibility for borrowing. Do not assume that a personal agreement between account holders automatically changes the bank's account mandate or a loan obligation. Seek appropriate legal advice where rights or responsibilities are disputed.
Bereavement or acting for someone else
Notify the provider through its documented process and ask which authority and supporting documents are required. Keep a record of the reference and next steps. Do not use another person's login credentials as a substitute for formal authority.
Changing work or income
Review the timing of income, essential spending and debt repayments. Update the household budget and discuss possible payment difficulties early. When leaving a business role, ensure that business account access and signatory responsibilities are reviewed.
Prepare a focused enquiry
Describe the change, the type of account affected and whether there is an urgent payment or access need. Send sensitive documents only through an approved secure channel. Do not include full account details in a public enquiry.
