Account fees and balances

Understand a charge, a pending transaction or a difference in your balance.

Available and recorded balances

A recorded balance and the amount available to spend can differ because of pending transactions, reserved card amounts, deposit holds or other account conditions. Check the transaction detail and the account agreement before assuming that every displayed credit is immediately available.

Review a charge

  • Find the transaction date, description, amount and currency.
  • Compare the charge with the current fee schedule for your account.
  • Check whether a balance requirement, transaction limit or waiver condition was met.
  • Keep the relevant statement or confirmation for a secure enquiry.

Overdrafts and declined payments

An overdraft arrangement, a linked-account transfer and a declined payment have different effects and may have different charges. Ask which options apply to your account, how they are activated and whether interest or fees may arise. A pending deposit is not necessarily available to cover a payment.

If the amount still looks wrong

Raise an account enquiry through the banking service. State which entry you are questioning and why, using the date and reference. Do not send your password, PIN, security code or complete card number. Keep the ticket reference and use the same thread for follow-up.
